Hey everyone, exciting news! We’re thrilled to announce a fantastic feature to elevate user experience and streamline workflow, the integration of Zapier Triggers. With Zapier you can connect CustomGPT.ai to 5000+ other apps and with Zapier Triggers you can automate various tasks for example sending automated emails to your customers and triggering specific processes. You can tailor this automation to your business needs to create a customized and efficient workflow to take your digital experience to another level.

The possibilities are extensive, and the flexibility of CustomGPT.ai and Zapier Triggers allows you to get creative with how you automate tasks to suit your unique requirements.

CustomGPT.ai’s Zapier Triggers

Zapier is an online automation tool that allows you to connect apps, such as CustomGPT.ai, Gmail, Slack, and more than hundreds of others. It enables you to automate repetitive tasks between two or more apps, creating automated workflows known as “Zaps.” In Zapier, a “trigger” is a specific event in one app that initiates the automation process.

Imagine someone asking a question to your CustomGPT.ai bot, and

And now CustomGPT.ai supports Zapier trigger allowing you to connect your CustomGPT.ai chatbot with your preferred applications to automate the workflow.

Here are some examples of tasks that can be automated using a custom chatbot and Zapier triggers:

  • Customer Support
  • Automating Emails
  • Appointment Scheduling
  • Sales
  • E-commerce Order Processing
  • Social Media Management
  • Content Distribution
  • Event Management

Now I am going to explain the steps on how you can create a Zapier trigger with CustomGPT.ai by choosing one of the above automated tasks such as “Automating Emails” as an example.

Creating Zapier Trigger to Automate Emails with CustomGPT.ai

You can automate emails for various purposes such as sending emails to your subscribed customers, product marketing, sending promotion emails whenever there is a new product, and sending emails to customer’s queries.

Here we will create Zapier Trigger to automate customer support by sending an onboarding email. Whenever your CustomGPT.ai chatbot receives a new message from customers, Zapier will automatically send an onboarding email to the specified recipient. Here’s a step-by-step guide on how to set up this automation:

Before You Begin

Before you begin set up your CustomGPT.ai account. Also, make sure you have created your Zapier and Gmail accounts. So we can create and integrate Zapier trigger smoothly with CustomGPT.ai to send Emails.

Create a Zap

A Zap is a set of instructions that automate the transfer of information between two or more apps. It consists of a “trigger” and one or more “actions.” A trigger is an event in one app that initiates the automation process, and the actions are the tasks that you want to perform automatically in response to that trigger.

A Zap for automating email can be set up to do the following:

Trigger: When a new message is in the CustomGPT.ai chatbot asked by the user.

Action: Send an Email (containing an answer) to the customer.

To create a Zap you need to follow the steps into your Zapier account.

  • In the Zapier interface click on Dashboard.
Zapier Create a Zap screen shows AI Beta Generate prompt box and Free Plan tasks 0/100 in left sidebar.
Zapier’s Create a Zap links Custom GPT output to app trigger-action steps, with a 100-task Free plan limit.
  • Click on the Trigger and Action section below.
Zapier Draft Untitled Zap builder shows AI prompt “When X happens, do Y, then do Z” with Trigger and Action steps.
Zapier Draft maps one natural-language instruction into a two-step Trigger→Action automation flow.

Choose the Trigger Apps

For the trigger app search for CustomGPT.ai from the search bar. And click on CustomGPT.ai.

Zapier Change trigger panel shows 'CustmGPT' search returning CustomGPT, with Tables, Schedule, and Webhook tools.
Custom GPT appears in Zapier’s Change trigger app picker alongside native Tables, Schedule, and Webhooks.

Setup the Trigger Event

Choose the specific event you want to define for automation. To set up a trigger using CustomGPT.ai you have to connect your CustomGPT.ai account using the RAG API key.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does a CustomGPT.ai Zapier trigger actually work?

A Zapier trigger is the event that starts the automation. In this setup, a new chatbot message can act as the trigger, and Zapier then sends that data to another app to perform an action such as sending an email, creating a task, or updating a workflow. In short, the chat event starts the Zap, and the connected app handles the next step automatically.

Do I need coding skills to connect CustomGPT.ai to Zapier?

Usually not. The basic setup is no-code: create the bot, connect your Zapier account, choose a trigger, pick one or more actions, map the fields, and test the workflow. Dr. Michael Levin of Levin Lab (Tufts University) captured that low-friction setup experience with this quote: “Omg finally, I can retire! A high-school student made this chat-bot trained on our papers and presentations” You may need developer help only if you want custom behavior beyond standard Zapier actions and field mapping.

Can I automatically send onboarding or follow-up emails after someone chats with my bot?

Yes. A documented use case is sending an onboarding email when the chatbot receives a new message. The same trigger-and-action pattern can also support follow-up emails, customer query responses, product marketing emails, or promotional emails if you map the right chat fields into Gmail or another email app. Evan Weber described the broader operational value this way: “I just discovered CustomGPT, and I am absolutely blown away by its capabilities and affordability! This powerful platform allows you to create custom GPT-4 chatbots using your own content, transforming customer service, engagement, and operational efficiency.”

Will Zapier give me full sync with GoHighLevel or other CRMs?

Usually not. Zapier is strongest for event-based automation, not full bidirectional data sync. For CRM use, it works well for actions such as creating a lead, adding a note, tagging a contact, or starting a follow-up when a chat event happens. If you need deeper application logic or more customized synchronization, the REST API is a better fit than relying on a simple trigger-action flow alone.

Can I route different users into different automated workflows based on what they ask?

Yes. You can use the chatbot event as the trigger and then send different downstream actions based on the topic, intent, or fields captured from the conversation. For example, one path can send support questions to email, another can create a CRM task for sales, and another can start an appointment workflow. Michael Juul Rugaard, Founding Partner & CEO of The Tokenizer, described the value of domain-specific experiences this way: “Based on our huge database, which we have built up over the past three years, and in close cooperation with CustomGPT, we have launched this amazing regulatory service, which both law firms and a wide range of industry professionals in our space will benefit greatly from.” That kind of specialized use case is why routing different question types into different workflows can be so useful.

How should I monitor a Zap after it goes live?

Monitor both the automation and the conversation quality. Start with four checks: whether the trigger fires, whether the action succeeds, whether the correct fields were passed, and whether the destination task actually completed. Because the platform includes analytics and conversation tracking, you can also review chats that produced incomplete or low-quality downstream actions. Brendan McSheffrey, Managing Partner & Founder of The Kendall Project, said: “We love CustomGPT.ai. It’s a fantastic Chat GPT tool kit that has allowed us to create a ‘lab’ for testing AI models. The results? High accuracy and efficiency leave people asking, ‘How did you do it?’ We’ve tested over 30 models with hundreds of iterations using CustomGPT.ai.” That same test-and-iterate approach is a strong model for improving Zaps after launch.
